Importing from a file

To open the Import-Export Tool for import, log on to the system to which you wish to import the file and select Tools --> Import from the main menu in the Administrator.

Source

In the Source field, select File. A dialog opens where you can browse to the .ieo-file to be imported. You can also select the file by entering the file path in the address field. If you have not accessed the path before, or your session has expired, the you will be prompted for login credentials.

note

To see a preview of the .ieo file, you must enable the Preview pane in the file explorer.

The default directory, opened the first time you use the tool is ..\ScriptImports. If the file to be imported is located in another directory, this directory will be default the next time you are selecting the Source for an .ieo-file. If the file is encrypted and protected with a password, you will be prompted to enter the password before the file can be imported.

When importing from a file to an iCore system, the entity tree is populated with entities from the file. The tree will only display entities that the user is authorized to export.

Destination

When you open the Import-Export Tool for import, the system from which you open the tool is automatically selected as Destination. It is possible to select another system from the drop-down list in the Destination field. The list displays all iCore systems registered on the local machine. If you select a system to which you are not logged on, the Import-Export Tool will prompt you to do this.

Entities are validated when they are selected for export to the destination system. For more information about entity validation, see Validation information. The validation information is removed once the entity is deselected.

Importing from a file

  1. Select Source file for the import.

    note

If the import source file contains entities that are of a later version than what is supported by the current iCore installation, you will receive a warning that any incompatible entities will be excluded from the import. For more information, see entity versions.

    note

If the current checksum of the file does not correspond to the checksum stored during export, you will receive a warning that the file has been modified. Note however that the file can still be imported.

    note

When importing files that were exported from an iCore system of earlier version where the dates and times were stored in local time, you will be asked to provide the time zone of the dates and times stored in this file to aid in the conversion to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The requested time zone is usually the time zone of the computer on which the source iCore system was running.

  2. If the file is encrypted, enter the password.

  3. Select Destination system (the system from which you opened the tool is selected by default). When the destination is selected, the left part of the main field is populated with a tree structure mirroring the one in the Source file.

  4. Select entities to import. When you click an entity type, all its entities are displayed in a list. You may then either select individual entities from the list or mark the Entity type itself in the tree to select all entities of the type.

  5. When you have selected the entities you wish to import, select Selected entities in the tree structure to view all entities, including dependency entities, to be imported. In this view you can make changes to the import. The list shows the import validation result of each entity and whether there are any available actions. Note that some entities in this list may have been included due to dependencies.

  6. Click the Auto assign to categories drop-down list to assign the selected entities to one or several categories. You can also add new categories.

    note

Trying to add a category which already exists will result in an import error.

  7. Click Import to import the entities to the Destination system.
